My friend, drinking buddy and fellow illustrator Chris “Patch”ell released his autobiographical sketchbook-journal, I Put the Can in Cancer, at the Nichols Berg Gallery last night. His book is a collection of drawings and writing 2 years in the making that details his fight with cancer of the tongue, and is aimed to help young people who have been diagnosed with cancer themselves. He deservedly sold out of all of the copies he had that night (I’m one of the lucky ones who got a copy!), but thankfully more are on their way. You can read more about it and see his work on his own blog,
An author commissioned a cover for a comic book proposal tentatively titled Feratu. There wasn’t much discussion as to the actual story, but she had a very clear idea of what she wanted and left it up to me to execute.
There was a good deal of back and forth over the sketches and the client was pretty particular about what she wanted. Sometimes it was more designy element in the hair, then less and so on. Thankfully she was pleased with the nature of the finish, so that was approved without revisions (yaaay).
